Overview

The govt has announced the establishment of new medical colleges in West Bengal, and under this scheme, various districts of the state have been blessed with premium medical institutions at an affordable range. Raniganj Institute of Medical Science, or RIMS, is the result of the announcement and is located in the Asansol subdivision of the Paschim Bardhaman district. This district is home to the top three medical colleges of West Bengal, mainly located in the bustling part of Durgapur. 

RIMS campus is surrounded by India’s oldest and largest coal belt, thus making it a prestigious place already. The medical college came into being in 2025, and you can be its fresh batch of doctors! Let us look at some key features of the medical college.

Initially, the medical college started its journey with an intake capacity of only 100 MBBS seats. However, this year they have seen a substantial increase in seats, making them a 200-seat MBBS college.

Admission

Before applying to any medical college, students must clear the NEET UG examination, the highest medical entrance examination in our country. 

Candidates who secured an eligible score and rank will get the chance to sit for MCC NEET UG counselling. During the choice-filing and locking phase, candidate need to select their desired college. 

The candidates will get seats after they have gone through the verification process. However, a candidate will be allotted a seat on the basis of their NEET rank, score, selected choice of colleges, and available seats.

Candidates must report to their allotted medical college once the seat allocation process is over.
