NEET UG 2026 Introduces Student-Friendly Changes: Extended Duration & More Rough Work Pages
NTA introduces student-friendly updates for NEET UG 2026, including a 195-minute exam window, increased rough work space, and improved question booklet layout for candidates.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced a set of student-friendly measures for NEET (UG) 2026 with the aim of making the examination process more comfortable while maintaining fairness and security.

NEET UG 2026 is scheduled to be conducted on 21st June 2026, and based on candidate feedback received over previous years, NTA has introduced changes focused on improving the overall examination experience.

Extended Examination Window for NEET UG 2026

One of the major changes announced for NEET UG 2026 is the extension of the examination duration. Candidates will now receive a total examination window of 195 minutes, and the exam timing will be 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM.

According to NTA, this revised duration includes the time required for mandatory examination procedures such as attendance verification and invigilation formalities.

The change has been introduced to ensure that students do not feel that administrative processes reduce their effective time to attempt the paper.

More Space for Rough Work

Another important update is the increase in rough workspace inside the question paper booklet.

For NEET UG 2026:

  • Candidates will now receive 4 rough work pages
  • Previously, only 2 rough work pages were available

This additional space is expected to help students manage:

  • Calculations
  • Diagrams
  • Problem solving
  • Rough working during the examination
  • Revised Question Paper Booklet Design

NTA has also redesigned the placement of rough work pages inside the booklet.

Earlier:

Rough pages were available only at the end of the booklet

For NEET UG 2026:

  • 2 rough work pages will be placed immediately after the instruction page
  • 2 rough work pages will remain at the end

This change has been introduced after receiving feedback that the earlier layout was less convenient for some candidates, especially left-handed students.

Important Advice for NEET UG 2026 Candidates

Candidates are advised to:

  •  Read the Admit Card instructions carefully
  •  Go through the Information Bulletin before exam day
  •  Follow examination guidelines at the centre
  •  Cooperate with the invigilators for the smooth conduct of the examination
